Downtown Eugene OR made the LIVABILITY.COM list of top ten city centers! Yeah! Eugene’s core was picked for its arts scene and ease for walkers. The website describes Eugene as “a regional center for creativity and culture” due to its music venues, art galleries, Hult Center for the Performing Arts, McDonald Theatre, dance venues, upscale eateries, rotating festivals, as well as nearby Alton Baker Park. (Information taken from today’s Register Guard newspaper’s article by Saul Hubbard.)
Downtown does have problems, but Mayor Kitty Piercy and the City Council are working with the police and Chamber of Commerce to slowly rectify them.
Living in Eugene has always been pleasant, as long as you keep your umbrella handy. The people here support the arts, the schools, the Ducks, and our parks. We have the beautiful McKenzie and Willamette Rivers and are only a little over an hour from the Oregon coast and the Cascade mountains. We are known as the Emerald City due to all the wondrous trees, and Track Town USA, because running is an integral part of what Eugene is. Prefontaine is a local saint to running. People, walk, run, and ride bicycles all over the city and much effort is put into maintaining the walking/running/biking trails.
Come visit. You will want to stay.
