Healthy brain

Your brain needs to be kept as healthy as your body.  I go to the fitness center two times a week and walk every day, but what do I do for my brain?  Here are some suggestions…

Whole Brain Workout

  1. Do crossword puzzles.  This is good for verbal memory retrieval from factual knowledge.  I have to confess that I have never liked crossword puzzles.  Actually, I’m not much of a puzzle-anything person.
  2. Volunteer!  Good for the brain, the soul and the community.  Helps with problem solving, planning, and organizing.  Giving dinner parties are another way.
  3. Interior decorating.  This boosts your visual and spatial senses.  Reorganize a room in your house.  Explore new areas of your city.  Travel to a new city and trying to find your way around.  Now we are talking.  I love to travel and love the challenge of finding my way.  I remember getting lost in the Forbidden City.  Try to find your way out when you don’t speak any Chinese languages…
  4. Challenge yourself.  Get involved in activities where you are not an expert, but that you enjoy or think you would enjoy.
