Your brain needs to be kept as healthy as your body. I go to the fitness center two times a week and walk every day, but what do I do for my brain? Here are some suggestions…
Whole Brain Workout
- Do crossword puzzles. This is good for verbal memory retrieval from factual knowledge. I have to confess that I have never liked crossword puzzles. Actually, I’m not much of a puzzle-anything person.
- Volunteer! Good for the brain, the soul and the community. Helps with problem solving, planning, and organizing. Giving dinner parties are another way.
- Interior decorating. This boosts your visual and spatial senses. Reorganize a room in your house. Explore new areas of your city. Travel to a new city and trying to find your way around. Now we are talking. I love to travel and love the challenge of finding my way. I remember getting lost in the Forbidden City. Try to find your way out when you don’t speak any Chinese languages…
- Challenge yourself. Get involved in activities where you are not an expert, but that you enjoy or think you would enjoy.
